Facebook group
Hi everyone.
I have created a group on Facebook called "Bujinkan Kunoichi Taikai 2010". A number of people thought this would be a good way to find each other on Facebook, stay in touch, and share thoughts and experiences of the event.
Please join and feel free to post on the wall, or upload pictures or videos.
Thanks.
Calling UK Kunoichi
I am looking for other Kunoichi to travel with from the UK to the Kunoichi Taikai 2010. If you would like someone to travel with or do not mind one extra tagging along with your group please get in touch thank you Crimson
All input would be greatly welcomed!
I would like to begin by stating that I am not a member of the dojo. I am a professional writer who is working on an article about Kunoichi and would like as much input from as many women as I can about their experiences and training.
I have only a very brief time to compile information, so please encourage everyone that you know who has input for me to reply as soon as possible. I must have a rough draft of my article by May 23 and the final piece submitted on May 30th.
Thank you in advance for all of your comments and thoughts. Also, if you know of other resources that I could turn to, that would also be a great aid for me. Thanks again!
Video Clip
The short clip from the interview with Soke will be posted soon to this site. Thanks for asking Becky.
Sheila
hi ....I am william
I guess it has been a great idea to bring together kunoichis world wide - as a minority it is kind of natural behavior to unite and exchange experiences and feelings.Anyhow in my opinion (and after discussing the subject yesterday) there are defiantly differences between man and woman. But this should be taken as an advantage to compliment and learn from each other. If the aim of kunoichis is equality, separation is not the way.The man in our dojo explained that they sometimes feel uncomfortable, no that is not the right word - they feel a kind of insecurity how to train with women, but as our Shihan and all others train in such a natural way not transmitting insecurity or feelings such as: uii...how can I do this technique with a women...the training starts to be unsexual. The important thing is to be present in the technique - having the right feeling and attitude.
take it easy
In my opinion there is a serious misunderstand here which can't seem to get cleared up:
This taikai is absolutely not about "equality" (or what). By the way equality as such is beyond question - men and women *are* already equal :)
It is about a "physical brainstorming" of a group of people whose members share the same special characteristics (in this case: being females and bearing everything that comes with it).
I wonder if for example beside the normal taikais, buyukais and seminars that are organized all year long all around the world there was a one-time "Canadians-only" taikai or "People-above-18-years-old" takikai - would that also cause a gutcry? I personally would not feel offended at all. I would take it easy. But maybe it is just me.
Friends, I think that the
Friends,
I think that the reason for organising this Tai Kai is to unite the women around the world who train in Bujinkan and to give us a chance to supplement our regular training (which can sometimes be male orientated, due to the girl to guy ratio in most dojos) with some specialised Kunoichi training. It's very true emi_lu that women and men can learn a lot training with each other but I think that there is a lot that women can learn training together too.
The Kunoichi in feudal Japan employed a lot of different techniques and weapons which weren’t used by the male counterparts and this is what the Kunoichi Tai Kai will help us to realise; that Bujinkan women are part of a 'lineage', if you will, of very talented warrior women, who used their very gender as a weapon against many men.
As much as I love training with the guys I do believe that this event should be for women alone, and maybe then we can pass on what we learn to the men in our clubs if they're willing to learn.
Niamh.
Complement one another
Dear all,
Long time I did not take a look at the ninpo-women-forum. I see that finally the TAIKAI Kunoichis will take place next year.
Yesterday I spread that message in our Dojo, and we were sitting together 1,5h discussing that subject - men and women. Probably this subject is discussed already; back in the beginning when the idea started to spread I also posted my opinion on that.
I just would like to mention a few points, as kind of proposal and to give new ideas.
As a sum I can tell that no one really understands why to bring up such a Taikai (neither men nor women) in our Dojo.
I guess it has been a great idea to bring together kunoichis world wide - as a minority it is kind of natural behavior to unite and exchange experiences and feelings.
Anyhow in my opinion (and after discussing the subject yesterday) there are defiantly differences between man and woman. But this should be taken as an advantage to compliment and learn from each other.
If the aim of kunoichis is equality, separation is not the way.
The man in our dojo explained that they sometimes feel uncomfortable, no that is not the right word - they feel a kind of insecurity how to train with women, but as our Shihan and all others train in such a natural way not transmitting insecurity or feelings such as: uii...how can I do this technique with a women...the training starts to be unsexual. The important thing is to be present in the technique - having the right feeling and attitude.
So, what I would like to say is, that women can learn from man and men can learn and want to learn from women.
There is machismo for sure in the Bujinkan - I will not deny.
But Why not open the doors for men in the Taikai? A Taikai hold by female shihan united - dedicated to kunoichi, and welcoming men who are interested (machos will not appear due to problems with their ego so probably there will be 15-20% men) in learning from us? In showing the kunoichi way of applying techniques and thoughts.
This would transmit that there are a lot of Kunoichis, open minded and show that we train all with the same goals althoughh probably with different ways.
Anyhow - I am sure you will have a great time during the Taikai and transmit the self-confidence for the women who need it and motivate more Kunoichis to become Shihan (I guess it is already time for it). But still I think- maybe you can open the doors for men who are interested in learning from us...
Kindest regards from Barcelona and keep on training !!

I agree totaly
and will alsow add : what if the same thing were to happen but a tai-kai only open to men .. what would we feel ?
sincerely

A good idea
I think that's a really good idea. Segregation can exasperate problems and make kunoichi feel TOO different.
Also, if men understand the different ways in which women move (simply because we are built differently) it will enhance their own training and understanding of movement.
not such a good idea <-- my opinion
training with men lets us see our differences all the time, even if its just that some have difficulties to train with women.
But why should we strive to become equal to men, I for one am unique. I have to agree with Niamh, that this is probably more about the exchange of kunoichi worldwide, the problems differences, the experiences, the additional training. I dont say, we should train different in our dojo, but traditionally there have been subjects only kunoichi did learn. I am eager to see if this "additional" training will be available for us, as besides this taikai, questions asked are mostly answered by male bujinkan members who either admit they dont know or claim there is no difference.
my two cents to the topic
btw, we could allow a few men as "try out" dummies :P
PS. NO OFFENCE INTENDED IN THE ABOVE LINE, I DO HAVE THE UPMOST RESPECT FOR THE GUYS IN BUJINKAN
"try-out dummies"
Heh :) there were a few volunteers for that from my country ;-)
They would be more than happy to attend :-)
Anyway, I also think this would be a new additional feature in our training, from which we could only gain (and our male counterparts, too, in our home dojos). After all it is far not about "leaving the guys", it it? :-) It is just one occasion, and not a "nonconformist movement" so to speak...
I am absolutely sure that after this Taikai a lot of things will get to its place for a lot of women, and thus, it will be more productive and enjoyable for the guys to practice with these ladies when they return to their home dojos.
Eva
..training partners
I fully support Sheila and the idea of the Kunoichi-Kai, as well as having guys as training partners (sounds nicer than 'try-out dummies', doesn't it? ;) ).
I'd be happy to continue helping out, either as translator (web/seminar) or simply as a boy-toy, err.... I mean beat-up-dummy... no... training partner ;)
I'm sure either Andrea or I can motivate a few others from our Dai-sho dojo (both male and female) to participate in one way or another.
Marco
training partners...importance of the taikai
Thank you Marco. Many men and women have shown fantastic support of the event, as I realize there has been some controversy around it. That's ok. The energy is high, and the instructors are awesome. It will be a terrific time, and a gathering of women to discuss many things, besides training. As we review the interview and words from Soke, I am sure so much more will be discovered as we dig deeper into the meaning of his words. In the clip that is being shown on the website (or will be shortly as of this post) Soke says in response to those who don't want to go because they don't like to train with other women, "Sensei feels that it is good to have your own thoughts and your own kind of feelings and morals and that type of thing, but its also good to come, and not always follow your own mind all the time, experience it, to come and see what it is like, to experience it, it might expand your field of view. You might find a new way of looking at things, for the purpose of the experience."
There will be only one Kunoichi Taikai. Next I would love to see an International Taikai with both men and women instructing and all of us getting together to share and carry on the teachings of Soke. One step at a time....Thank you all for the support.

Video Interview?
Hello Shiela, and everyone!
Shiela, you mentioned a clip of Soke and an interview with him about the TaiKai in your reply to Marco. Where can we view this?
